Suez was a much more incontestable and sudden failure than Iraq has been, but even there the analysis that led to invasion was not all wrong, explains Charles Moore. Nasser was bidding to control the Arab world and turn it against the West, enlisting the help of the Soviet Union. Much misery would have been prevented if he had been stopped.
